Amp up your JOMO!

I came across this term today and found it both amusing and apt. Dictionary.com defines JOMO [ joh-moh ] as, “a feeling of contentment with one’s own pursuits and activities, without worrying over the possibility of missing out on what others may be doing”.

Now every time I think FOMO, I know that I need to reset my brain to think JOMO. I feel like in the world we live in with social media and whatnot, FOMO is a very real thing. But if we are all focused on our own stuff and doing our own thing, there’s very little scope to think about what’s going on in other people’s lives.

Think about it…if you were truly focused on living the best life you could live and trying to be the best version of you you could be, would it even matter what other people were being, doing, or having? I think the abbreviation JOMO captures this so beautifully. There is such joy and satisfaction in being so immersed in creating the life you want to live that there’s little time or mindspace for others’s stuff.

I’m right now creating a business that I’ve always wanted to create and at the same time pursuing interests I’ve always wanted to pursue (such as publishing my first novel!). I’m in the best of health and have the most amazing group of friends. Things will go on swimmingly…so long as I swim in my own waters. The grass might look green on the other side, but the idea is to not even look at the other side when you have plenty of pasture of your own to graze. 🙂
